The son of a La Romaine woman who was found floating in the Usine St Madeleine Pond, one week ago, is calling on the man who last saw her alive to tell her family how she died.
Anil Mohammed told the T&T Guardian on Thursday that his mother Cheryl Mohammed was seen leaving a bar in Diamond Village, San Fernando, with a close male friend the night she went missing. He called for that man to come forward and say what really happened that night.
“If he didn’t have anything to do with her death he should come out and say so. We have to live with this pain and with not knowing what happened to our mother.
“And it looks like the police dragging their feet on this investigation. Why haven’t they held him or talked to him in their investigation?”
He is calling on police to dig deeper into the case.
“They need to really look deeper into this, because to find a person overnight like that and the way her body was and they couldn’t find a cause of death, all these things have the family really hurting right now.”
Anil said, as far as he knew, his mother was involved in a relationship with the man for some time but he did not know the man personally.
He said the man would have picked her up on the Wednesday and the both of them went to an insurance office where his mother had some business to transact.
“Later that night, they were seen liming at a bar in Diamond Village together and people who were there said my mother had to be carried to the car when they were leaving.”
But Anil said his mother was not a heavy drinker and he found it very strange that eyewitnesses said she was so intoxicated that night.
“She was never someone to drink over the limit, I can’t understand how she would have gotten to that state. Something is not adding up.”
Mohammed’s body was found floating facedown in the Usine Ste Madeline pond on September 31. She was fully dressed and there were no visible marks of violence on her body.
An autopsy done the next day found that the cause of her death was inconclusive and a toxicology report has been ordered.
