
A Williamsville man who was sentenced to 36 months in jail for housebreaking and larceny told a San Fernando magistrate he stole to repay a drug debt.
Navin Baboolal, 37, pleaded guilty to housebreaking and larceny and store breaking and larceny when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando Magistrates Court yesterday.
The court heard that on July 29 the first victim secured her Marabella home and went away. When she returned at around 3.15 pm the next day she discovered the metal burglar proof on the Southern side of her home cut and removed. A check revealed jewelery totalling $27,000 and $12,000 in cash was missing.
